Course Description

First aid courses, both practical and theoretical, enabling people with the skills needed to save lives. The objective of a Basic CPR Class is simple.

  • Its objective is to know how to help a victim while waiting for an ambulance or other advanced help to arrive in an emergency medical situation.
  • Another aspect of the Basic CPR class is to understand the differences between very serious emergencies and those that are not.
  • To comply with the current American Heart Association (AHA) Guidelines on Defibrillation and Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation in relation to adults and pediatrics 2015 Guidelines.
  • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills (in simulation) to effectively identify patients who are deteriorating and undertake effective Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a series of life-saving actions that improve the chance of survival following cardiac arrest.
  • Although the optimal approach to CPR may vary, depending on the rescuer, the victim, and the available resources, the fundamental challenge remains: how to achieve early and effective CPR. Given this challenge, recognition of arrest and prompt action by the rescuer continue to be priorities for the 2015 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC.

Topics covered in Basic CPR classes include:

  • First aid basics
  • Medical emergencies
  • Injury emergencies
  • Environmental emergencies
  • Adult CPR and AED use
  • Child CPR and AED use and infant CPR
