American Heart Association course

This certification is required for many professionals including, but is not limited to: teachers, personal trainers, child care workers, foster parents, coaches, and construction and lay-workers. Certification is good for two years.

First Aid

Included in the course is an interactive video covering: First aid basics- Medical emergencies, Injury emergencies, and Environmental emergencies. First Aid instruction includes: bandaging, bleeding, wounds, choking, shock, seizure, fainting, broken bones, sprains, burns, bites, stings, poison, and temperature-related conditions, to name a few.


By completing the First Aid portion of the course, you will be able to:

  • Describe the key steps in first aid
  • Find the problem
  • Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, broken bones, etc.
  • Use an epinephrine pen
  • Control bleeding and bandaging
  • Recognize elements of common injuries
  • Recognize elements of common illnesses
  • Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury
  • Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

  • NOTE: You are required to have the current Heartsaver Student Workbook with you in class. You may either obtain it on your own or purchase it through Simplex United for $5.
