American Heart Association course

This certification is required for many professionals including, but is not limited to: teachers, personal trainers, child care workers, foster parents, coaches, and construction and lay-workers. Certification is good for two years.

First Aid

Included in the course is an interactive video covering: First aid basics- Medical emergencies, Injury emergencies, and Environmental emergencies. First Aid instruction includes: bandaging, bleeding, wounds, choking, shock, seizure, fainting, broken bones, sprains, burns, bites, stings, poison, and temperature-related conditions, to name a few.

By completing the First Aid portion of the course, you will be able to:

Describe the key steps in first aid

Find the problem

Describe the assessment and first aid actions for the following life-threatening conditions: difficulty breathing, choking, severe bleeding, shock, broken bones, etc.

Use an epinephrine pen

Control bleeding and bandaging

Recognize elements of common injuries

Recognize elements of common illnesses

Describe how to find information on preventing illness and injury

Recognize the legal questions that apply to first aid rescuers

NOTE: You are required to have the current Heartsaver Student Workbook with you in class. You may either obtain it on your own or purchase it through Simplex United for $5.
