Course Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course the student will:

  • Understand the origins of medical words and be able to define unfamiliar medical terms by analyzing their word parts
  • Be able to work efficiently with a medical dictionary and verify the definitions of unfamiliar terms
  • Be able to define, spell and pronounce medical terms associated with each of the major body systems including the integumentary system, the musculoskeletal system, the nervous system, and the endocrine system
  • Understand concept and able differentiate cells, tissues, organs, systems, and cavities
  • Understand and interpret terms related to various disorders, medical conditions, treatments, diagnosis and clinical procedures
  • Be able to identify, understand and properly use surgical terms
